University Day Celebrated at RUET with Colorful Events: ‘The Purpose of a University is to Create Innovative and Creative People’

Professor Mohammad Tanzimuddin Khan, Member of the University Grants Commission (UGC), said, 'The purpose of a university is to create innovative and creative people. University classrooms give us the right to ask questions. Through questioning, new knowledge is created. A university has two dimensions—one is infrastructure and the other is education. We must embrace the aspirations of people in changing circumstances.' He made these remarks as the chief guest while addressing a discussion session organized on the occasion of 'University Day 2025' at Rajshahi University of Engineering & Technology (RUET) on Monday (September 1).

The event was presided over by Professor Dr. Md. Rabiul Islam Sarker, Director of the Students' Welfare Office, while the chief patron of the celebration was RUET Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. S M Abdur Razzak. In his speech, the Vice Chancellor said, 'As an engineering university, the people’s expectation from us is to transform science into technology. If we can properly fulfill our responsibility of innovating and developing indigenous technology, only then will the nation move forward. We firmly believe that this will fulfill the hopes and aspirations of our people.'

Earlier in the morning at 9:30, the national and RUET flags were hoisted, and balloons and pigeons were released to inaugurate the day. Afterwards, floral tributes were paid at the graves of RUET’s martyred students of the Liberation War, followed by prayers for the welfare of the country and the nation. A tree-planting program was also held on the campus. At 10:30 a.m., a colorful rally was brought out from in front of the administrative building with the participation of teachers, students, officers, and employees, which concluded with the discussion session and prize-giving ceremony.

To mark the day, RUET students also organized an innovative poster presentation, debate competition, blood donation program, art exhibition, as well as prayers after Zuhr at the central mosque and food distribution among orphans.

The celebrations were attended spontaneously by teachers, students, officers, and staff. Special guests included the Deans of various faculties and the Registrar of the university.
